2012 Swifter, Higher,Stronger -Olympic Tradition

The age-old motto of the Olympic Games is Swifter,Higher,Stronger. That motto is one Satori likes because we try our hardest to be timely, even swift,in our response to inquiries. We set higher goals each year for delivering services to families in need of help while they are dealing with dementia. Our group is stronger, each year, in the belief that most often, staying in one’s home is the best way to be on the dementia journey…if the best health services are part of that decision. The best services are those that meet the needs of the whole person-physical,mental,emotional and spiritual.

Satori Pathway does that…please call us or comment about your challenges and hopes for aging or taking care of someone you love who has dementia or Alzheimer’s.

What 2 Memories From This Past Month Make You Smile the Most?

This last month I celebrated many birthdays with many friends and family. We had a sumptuous feast at Altamore’s honoring my mom’s 85th. birthday. The stories we heard about her and each other…the wonderful gathering of people from old neighborhoods and church, and family members, and the food…oh so slowly enjoyed.

Opening the front door on March 8 I locked in on 2 rhododendron bushes that border the walkway to our front door. They are usually blooming in May. Tropical, lush, soft purple blossoms stopped me in my tracks to get the newspaper.I hope I never forget that.

In other words I hope I never get Alzheimer’s.Can you tell us about your 2 memories that make you smile the most?

9-1-1 Calls For Emergency When Elderly Get Violent

The Rockford Fire Department has had Satori Pathway present 2 C.E.U. classes for the new paramedics training and experienced paramedics keeping their education current.

Our presentation compares the behaviors and violence sometimes associated with drugs and alcohol abuse to the behaviors of a dementia patient, who might be agitated or off their meds.

Emergency calls are no fun for anyone..and can scare the already agitated Alzheimer’s patient. Most people don’t think of what a fire truck or ambulance crew might be dealing with until they have an experience with a family episode themselves or in the neighborhood.

We also share methods and suggestions for dealing with the behaviors and for helping the family members caught in the middle of such an  incident. There are usually a number of questions from the paramedics  that add to the material we present and help everyone have a better understanding of the dementia and Alzheimer’s patient.

If you have had any experience with the law and emergencies around your loved one suffering from Alzheimer’s please comment or call us at Satori Pathway-779-537-5249.

3 Rakes,5 White Cleaning Rags,and Clean Screens

The mild temps on Sunday afternoon, and the sunlight, prompted my husband and I to rake the largest garden bed of our 4 garden beds.My rake kept picking up a  carpetlike matting formed from decayed leaves. The hardwood floors inside sat dusted in dust! I like to use white terry cloth rags with Auquashine to clean them. I would have done the floors if the sun had not been shining. When I came in to get leaf bags I was sweating and tried to open a screenless window.Time for the screens to get washed and put in the windows.

I am with families who are watching a loved one lose their ability to do tasks that once came easily for them..like cleaning. At Satori Pathway we can go over the stages of decline in a private setting and talk about how to help everyone adjust to the losses.

Please comment or call 779-537-5249 or 815-395-2157..when you are not out ..or inside cleaning.

3 Ways to Enjoy the Extra Sunlight

Sitting near the ocean or letting the sun shine in my eye are at the top of my list for renewing my spirit and relaxing my body.Leaving work at 4P.M. and knowing there will be 3-4 hours of light allows me to take a leisurely walk or work in the garden…or not.

Satori Pathway listens to families who are dealing with the midafternoon activities that can be challenging  or excessive and require lots of energy to moniter. This phenomenom is called sundowning.

3 activities to enjoy with a senior are walking, listening to their favorite music and maybe dancing …how about dancing on the porch or patio? Some “adjusted”working in the garden would be soothing also..in that sunlight.

Please call or comment on your experience with sundowning.I would love to hear from you.815- 395-2157 or 779-537-5249

Presidents Choose 7 Advisors

Political junkies, citizens, and patriots know that the president’s advisor’s are usually trusted, knowledgable and experienced in the public venue. Are there specific qualifications to become  an advisor to the president? If you know about that, I invite you to comment.

A background check would most likely be required to work in the White House, but beyond that I wonder. At Satori Pathway we train already qualified nurses and C.N.A’s to work specifically with dementia patients and these employees need to have a heart to work with the elderly.

Effective presidents tend to draw into the inner circle the balance they need to deal with diverse issues and policies they want to initiate. So does Satori Pathway. Please call 815-395-2157 for help or to just speak with us about what help is available for dementia patients and their family members.
